Valeri Nichushkin, a forward for the Colorado Avalanche, was placed in Stage 3 of the Player Assistance Program by the NHL and NHLPA on Monday. This means that he will miss the remainder of the playoffs and will be suspended for at least six months.
Nichushkin will be able to submit an application for reinstatement after six months. He won’t get paid while he’s on suspension.
Hours before Colorado entered the ice for Game 4 of a Western Conference semifinal series against the Stars in Denver, word of Nichushkin’s suspension leaked out. Dallas is ahead in the best-of-seven series, 2-1.
