The Sydney Roosters are a team that takes great satisfaction in operating with poise, professionalism, and efficiency. They may not view themselves like the outside world does, but they do.
However, the Tricolours and their proud chairman Nick Politis have suffered greatly as a result of David Fifita’s “now you see me, now you don’t” backflip. I’m not going to start teaching him how to operate a business; he doesn’t need my advice.
However, Fifita mishandled the Roosters during the first round of talks to the point where Politis wanted to break off the negotiations and leave. His sense, which was normally spot-on, informed him that the Gold Coast backrower’s hesitation to accept conditions right away was an indication that his heart wasn’t in it.
Due to his strong start to the season, second-rower Angus Crichton may be selected for a State of Origin recall. He plays the same position as Fifita, so why wasn’t it a good idea for the Chooks to let him know what they were planning?
It was bad form, and Crichton, who is a top player, let them know in remarks that were unusual. Hearing it from someone from the Roosters, a team that likes to control the message, is quite uncommon.
