Due to goalkeeper interference by colleague Matt Duchene, the Dallas Stars were unable to get Mason Marchment’s apparent goal in overtime upheld.
However, Duchene capitalized in the second overtime as the Stars won Game 6 on Friday night, 2-1 over the Colorado Avalanche, to secure a ticket to the Western Conference final for the second time in as many years.
At 12:31 of the first overtime period, Marchment’s shot was successful, but the on-ice referees determined that Duchene had made contact with Colorado goalie Alexandar Georgiev. Just before the puck entered the net, defenceman Cale Makar of the Avalanche shoved Duchene. After reviewing the play, the NHL’s Situation Room determined there was no goal.
