The North Sydney Bears and the dominant Melbourne Storm have partnered, with the former feeding the latter in 2024.
The Storm’s general manager of football, Frank Ponissi, along with Bears CEO Gareth Holmes and Storm CEO Justin Rodski announced the new two-year contract at North Sydney Oval on Tuesday afternoon.
Storm players will now be split between three feeder teams for the duration of the two-year contract: Brisbane Easts, Sunshine Coast Falcons, and the Bears in the New South Wales Cup.
It happens at the end of the Bears-Roosters five-year cooperation, which ends at the end of the current campaign.
This season, the Roosters entered their own team in the NSW Cup and will continue that.
The Storm now has access to some of the NSW Cup’s best and most reliable players thanks to its agreement with the Bears.
The Bears are known for bringing in some of the top players available in the NSW Cup, and those who commit to 2024 or sign on again will have the chance to train with the Storm starting on November 1 of that year.
“The announcement of the partnership today serves as further evidence that the Bears are a highly regarded rugby league brand and a highly sought-after pathway for NRL players to further their careers.” Hey, Holme
