PHOENIX — Rebuilding could be the new market inefficiency. Only the Oakland Athletics and Washington Nationals were in that mentality last season. The Colorado Rockies, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Kansas City Royals may have looked the part, but they didn’t necessarily see themselves that way.
A relatively thin free-agent class provides a chance for a team prepared to forego the now for the future. And, after losing manager Craig Counsell, the Milwaukee Brewers appear to be willing to implement such a strategy.
