In a continued legal saga surrounding former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III, a Nevada judge is once again being called upon to determine which justice of the peace should oversee a preliminary hearing in Ruggs’ case. Ruggs faces charges related to a fatal car crash in 2021, where he is accused of causing the death of a woman while driving under the influence.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Harmony Letizia informed Ruggs and his legal team on Monday that she lacks the authority to make a decision regarding which judge should preside over the preliminary hearing. The hearing aims to assess whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial on charges including reckless driving and DUI causing death.

Ruggs’ attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, expressed their intention to escalate the matter once again to the Clark County District Court. In January, a judge in the district court had determined that the case should be assigned to the Las Vegas DUI specialty court docket.

The legal back-and-forth underscores the complexity and gravity of the charges against Ruggs, whose involvement in the fatal crash has drawn significant attention and scrutiny. As the legal proceedings continue, the fate of Ruggs and the outcome of the case remain uncertain, leaving both legal experts and the public awaiting further developments in this high-profile matter.
