In a harrowing incident near the Twin Cities, two individuals managed to survive a plane crash that occurred on the eastern edge of the metropolitan area.
The Lake Elmo Fire Department reported that the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call around 3:15 PM on Friday afternoon. The caller reported a potential plane crash and ensuing fire in a cornfield, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. The aircraft had just taken off from the Lake Elmo Airport before encountering trouble.
Upon arrival, firefighters swiftly extinguished the flames and provided aid to the injured pilot and passenger. A news release from authorities confirmed that both occupants sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities have not been disclosed to the public.
This incident comes only two weeks after another tragic plane crash claimed the lives of two individuals near Cottage Grove, which is approximately 10 miles from the site of Friday’s crash. The proximity of these events underscores the importance of thorough investigations by aviation authorities.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Their findings will shed light on the causes of the incident and potentially contribute to enhancing safety measures within the aviation community.
As the investigation unfolds, the community remains grateful for the swift response of emergency services and extends heartfelt wishes for the swift recovery of the survivors.
