President of baseball operations stated to reporters at a 45-minute news conference on Thursday that it is “our priority to try to sign” Nola, a homegrown righty who has amassed the second-highest number of innings (1,065) among all pitchers in baseball since 2018. He acknowledged the difficulty of winning any free-agent auction, but he also stated that the Phillies will be “aggressive” in their pursuit of Nola.
In an interview with “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday, Watt said he had been “monitoring” the circumstances surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers, where his brother T.J. plays, and the Houston Texans, where their other brother, Derek, also played in 2022. In spite of this, Watt made it clear that there was never any chance of a true comeback to the field.
Regarding the prospect of playing with his brothers, Watt said it would have been a “dream” come true but admitted that each of them was firmly established in their own role.
