Warriors coach Andrew Webster is asking his team’s devoted fans to be optimistic as their season hangs in the balance.

Since his arrival with the Warriors at the beginning of 2023, almost everything Webster touched has turned to gold.

Players produced career-best performances, and the team ended a five-year drought from the NRL finals by finishing fourth in the regular season.

Nine months later, however, things at Mt Smart seem very different.

Last year, the Warriors were sixth on the NRL ladder, having won eight games and lost six.

However, following a record-equaling defeat to the Gold Coast Titans, Webster’s men are in 13th with six wins, eight losses, and a draw.

However, the results of the 2023 season are still to be seen.

This year, the Warriors are expected to sell out every home game they play. The ardent legion of supporters who joined the bandwagon is still significantly present, supplementing the Mt Smart loyal who have been there since the beginning.

Even though the Warriors are in 13th place, they are only three points away from the top eight and finals football.

Last weekend’s 66-6 loss to the Titans matched the club’s worst ever result.

However, given that record and a 70-10 defeat to the Melbourne Storm during the Covid-affected years in Australia, last weekend’s result should be viewed as worse.

As a response, Webster took the initiative to broadcast a rallying call to the fans on behalf of the players.
