FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A 10-year-old Fort Wayne boy will compete in three track and field events in North Carolina, after securing a spot on the 2024 Junior Olympics team.
Only 10 years old, Fort Wayne’s Gabe Surry has been competing in track and field for four years, with three Junior Olympics appearances.
Surry is a member of Indiana AUU’s track team, Xcelerate.
Later this month, he will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to compete in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and long jump at AUU’s 2024 Junior Olympic Games.
Surry is one of the fastest 10-year-olds in the Midwest and will compete against athletes older than him during the competition.
Surry says he is surrounded by a supportive team at Xcelerate. “Whenever I run they are always cheering for me and before the race, they say, ‘You got this!”
