NEWS NOW: Bruins Rising Star Reveal Two Reason He Will Compete For Big Role

Boston Bruins forward Matthew Poitras was a feel-good story of the Original Six club’s 2023-24 season. After being Boston’s top preseason star, Poitras overcame the odds and made the Bruins’ opening night roster. In the end, the then-19-year-old handled himself well (he turned 20 in March), posting five goals, 15 points, and a plus-4 rating in 33 games. Unfortunately, shoulder surgery ended his rookie campaign in January.

The expectation is that Poitras will be ready to go at training camp, especially after he appeared at the Bruins’ development camp earlier this month. It will be another important preseason for the Ajax, Ontario native, as he has a shot at securing a more significant role in 2024-25.

Recent signing Elias Lindholm is projected to be the Bruins’ first-line center with David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha as his wingers, but there could be a bit of competition for the 2C role. While Charlie Coyle performed well filling in as the Bruins’ 2C last season, Poitras could make a case for himself with another big camp.
