PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WATE) — A man involved in a crash in Pigeon Forge on Thursday has died, according to the Pigeon Forge Police Department. The crash happened less than a mile from the Rod Run event.
On Saturday, Police Chief Richard Catlett shared that the crash happened near the intersection of the Parkway and Jake Thomas Road.
Catlett said the police department investigated the crash, and it appears that the crash happened as the man was driving a scooter between the white line on the road and the sidewalk when he approached a vehicle stopped at a red traffic signal. Reportedly, someone inside that vehicle opened a door and the man struck the door.
On Monday, the Pigeon Forge Police Department identified the man as Jeremy Hanes Jr., 31, of Charleston, Indiana. After the crash, the police department said Hanes was flown by Lifestar to UT Medical Center, where he died on Friday.
The police department also released on Monday that all parties remained on the scene and have been identified, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Catlett initially shared that the police department has not determined if the man was participating in the Rod Run event.
