After starting the season with a 15–24 record, the St. Louis Cardinals were expected to be sellers at the trade deadline. However, after going on a tear in May, their summer plans don’t appear as set in stone.
The Cardinals are making every effort not to let go of important players like they did at the deadline last year. Important players like Ryan Helsley and even Sonny Gray have been mentioned as possible trade candidates.
If St. Louis is unable to maintain their current trend of success and position themselves to be buyers rather than sellers on July 30, supporters may have to bid adieu to a well-known brand.
Based on his likelihood of making the postseason, Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller ranked first baseman Paul Goldschmidt as the eighth best trade candidate this summer among teams that might be sellers at the deadline.
