In a commanding performance at the 2025 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, the Penn State Nittany Lions secured their ninth conference title under the leadership of head coach Cael Sanderson. The team amassed a record-breaking 181.5 points, surpassing their previous high of 170.5 set in 2024.

Five Penn State wrestlers clinched individual titles, tying the school’s record for most champions in a single Big Ten tournament. The champions were:

  • Luke Lilledahl at 125 lbs
  • Tyler Kasak at 157 lbs
  • Mitchell Mesenbrink at 165 lbs
  • Levi Haines at 174 lbs
  • Carter Starocci at 184 lbs

All ten Nittany Lion wrestlers finished sixth or better in their respective weight classes, underscoring the team’s depth and dominance.

Coach Sanderson’s remarkable tenure at Penn State now includes nine Big Ten Championships and ten NCAA Championships. His leadership has been instrumental in establishing the Nittany Lions as a powerhouse in collegiate wrestling.

Looking ahead, Penn State will compete in the 2025 NCAA Championships in Philadelphia from March 20-22. The team boasts four No. 1 seeds and all ten wrestlers are seeded within the top eight of their respective weight classes.

The Nittany Lions’ performance at the Big Ten Championships not only solidifies their legacy but also sets a high standard as they aim for continued success at the national level.
