Academic Excellence

In 2024, Dunbar students showcased their scientific prowess by sweeping the Best of Fair awards at the Central Kentucky Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Grace Sun secured first place, Joseph Vulakh earned second, and Alex Thuringer took third in the grades 9-12 division.

Athletic Achievements

  • Boys’ Soccer: The Bulldogs clinched the KHSAA Boys’ Soccer State Championship in 2022, adding to their impressive record with previous titles in 2021, 2013, 2005, 2001, and 1992.
  • Boys’ Basketball: Dunbar celebrated its first KHSAA Boys’ Sweet Sixteen State Championship in 2016, marking a significant milestone in the school’s athletic history.

Historic Significance

The original Dunbar High School, operating from 1923 to 1967, was a beacon of pride in Lexington’s African-American community. It was among the first black high schools accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence.
