In a significant move for Missouri women’s basketball, the University of Missouri has appointed Kellie Harper as the new head coach, succeeding Robin Pingeton. Harper, a seasoned coach with extensive experience in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record to the Tigers.

Harper’s coaching career spans two decades, during which she has amassed a 393-260 record and led teams to nine NCAA Tournament appearances, including three Sweet Sixteen berths. Her previous head coaching roles include tenures at Western Carolina, North Carolina State, Missouri State, and most recently, Tennessee.

At Tennessee, her alma mater, Harper guided the Lady Volunteers to consecutive Sweet Sixteen appearances but parted ways with the program after not meeting championship expectations. Prior to that, she achieved notable success at Missouri State, leading the Lady Bears to a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the 2018-19 season.

Missouri Athletic Director Laird Veatch expressed enthusiasm about Harper’s appointment, highlighting her championship pedigree and deep-rooted history of success in high-major college basketball. He emphasized that her experience in the SEC and her ability to recruit and develop elite talent make her the ideal leader for the program.

Harper herself shared her excitement about returning to Missouri, stating, “Missouri is a special place, and I know firsthand the passion and pride that surrounds this program.” She looks forward to building strong relationships within the community and leading the Tigers to new heights in the competitive SEC landscape.

The Tigers have struggled in recent years, missing the NCAA Tournament for six consecutive seasons. Harper’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to revitalize the program and elevate its status within the conference.

An official press conference introducing Harper is scheduled at Mizzou Arena, with details to be announced soon. The university community and fans alike eagerly anticipate the new direction Harper will bring to Missouri women’s basketball.
