
Penn State Wrestling Continues Unbeaten Streak with Dominant Win Over American

The top-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions wrestling team extended its unbeaten streak to 12-0 on Sunday, defeating American University 44-3 in a lopsided matchup. The victory marked the latest triumph for a Penn State program that has established itself as a powerhouse in the world of collegiate wrestling.
Led by head coach Cael Sanderson, the Nittany Lions showcased their impressive depth and talent, winning nine of the 10 bouts against American. The team’s performance was highlighted by several standout individual efforts, including victories by returning national champions Roman Bravo-Young and Aaron Brooks.
“We’re pleased with the way our guys competed today,” Sanderson said. “We had some great individual performances, and our team showed a lot of heart and determination.”
Penn State’s dominance was evident from the opening bout, as the Nittany Lions reeled off six consecutive victories to take a commanding 23-0 lead. American’s lone victory came at 157 pounds, where Jonathan Errico edged Penn State’s Terrell Barraclough 3-2.
However, the Nittany Lions quickly regained momentum, with Brooks pinning American’s Timothy Levine at 184 pounds. The fall marked Brooks’ second of the season and cemented Penn State’s victory.
The Nittany Lions closed out the match with three consecutive wins, including a major decision by heavyweight Greg Kerkvliet. The victory marked Kerkvliet’s fifth of the season and improved his overall record to 12-2.
“We’re happy with the way we performed today, but we know we still have a lot of work to do,” Sanderson said. “We’ll keep pushing ourselves to improve and get better with each match.”
With the victory, Penn State improved its overall record to 12-0, while American fell to 2-4. The Nittany Lions will return to action next Sunday, when they host rival Ohio State in a highly anticipated Big Ten showdown.
