If Penn State star defensive end Abdul Carter doesn’t go No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL draft, there’s a good chance he won’t have to wait long to hear his name called.
Signs are continuing to point toward the Cleveland Browns selecting Carter with the No. 2 overall pick.
Carter had dinner with a large contingent of Browns officials on Thursday night in State College, according to a Friday morning report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
That contingent included owner Jimmy Haslem, executive vice president JW Johnson and general manager Andrew Berry.
The dinner came the night before Penn State’s pro day on Friday at Holuba Hall. Carter was present with his family and agent Drew Rosenhaus but will not work out.
This is at least the second significant meeting between Carter and Browns’ brass. Earlier this month, Carter visited Cleveland’s facility and met with multiple team officials.
Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean Carter is definitely going No. 2 overall. The Tennessee Titans might not take Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the top pick. The Browns might also take a quarterback, perhaps Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, even if Carter is available.
But if Carter — recognized by many as the top prospect in this year’s draft — makes it past the first pick, it might be wise for the Browns to pair him with All-Pro edge rusher Myles Garrett.
We’ll find out Carter’s NFL destination on the opening night of the draft on April 24.
