Udo Dirkschneider, the legendary German heavy metal vocalist renowned for his work with Accept and U.D.O., has passed away at the age of 72. The news was confirmed earlier today by multiple sources, including BBC.

Born on April 6, 1952, in Wuppertal, Germany, Dirkschneider’s powerful voice became a defining feature of the heavy metal genre. He gained international fame as the frontman of Accept, contributing to their breakthrough albums such as Balls to the Wall (1983) and Metal Heart (1985). After departing Accept in 1987, he formed U.D.O., continuing to influence the metal scene with albums like Animal House (1987) and Steelhammer (2013).

In recent years, Dirkschneier reunited with former Accept members to form Dirkschneider & The Old Gang, releasing new music and performing live. Their latest single, “It Takes Two to Tango,” was released earlier this month.

Fans and fellow musicians have expressed an outpouring of grief and tributes on social media, honoring Dirkschneider’s immense contribution to the world of heavy metal.
