BREAKING: Penn State Honors Legacy of Football Icon Franco Harris

University Park, PA — Penn State University is honoring the life and legacy of one of its all-time greats — Franco Harris — in a moving tribute that celebrates his impact on the field and beyond.

Harris, a legendary figure in both college and professional football, left an indelible mark on the Penn State community. Best known for his calm strength and iconic moments in the NFL, including the famed “Immaculate Reception,” Harris first rose to prominence as a standout running back for the Nittany Lions from 1969 to 1971.

This weekend, the university held a commemorative event at Beaver Stadium, where former teammates, coaches, and fans gathered to reflect on Harris’ remarkable journey. The ceremony featured speeches, video tributes, and the unveiling of a new plaque in his honor.

“Franco was more than a football legend — he was a Penn State legend,” said head coach James Franklin. “He embodied everything this program stands for: integrity, excellence, and heart.”

To ensure his legacy continues to inspire future generations, Penn State also announced the creation of the Franco Harris Scholarship Fund, supporting student-athletes who excel both academically and athletically.

As chants of “We Are… Penn State!” filled the air, it was clear — Franco Harris’ spirit remains deeply woven into the fabric of the university he loved.
