Breaking News about a minute ago Mahomes returns to Super Bowl for fifth time see more….

The former Texas Tech signal caller pushed his Kansas City Chiefs to the fifth Super Bowl appearance already in his career Sunday with a 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium. With the win, the Chiefs move on to face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX where Kansas City will look to become the first NFL franchise in history to win three-consecutive world titles.

“That’s a great football team we played,” Mahomes said to CBS’ Jim Nantz on stage following the win. “At the end of the day, I trust my teammates against anybody. I’m excited to get down to New Orleans. Let’s make history!”

Mahomes completed 18-of-26 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown Sunday, while also rushing 11 times for 43 yards and two other important scores en route to ending the Bills’ season in the playoffs for the fourth time in the past five seasons. In the process, Mahomes became only the third starting quarterback in history to push his team to five or more Super Bowls in history, joining two all-time greats in Tom Brady (10) and John Elway (5).

The Chiefs are now 17-3 in the postseason with Mahomes as their quarterback as he passed Joe Montana for second all-time among NFL quarterbacks for playoff wins. He will need another win in New Orleans to join another prestigious club of quarterbacks with four or more Super Bowl titles as Brady has seven while both Montana and Terry Bradshaw won four in their respective careers.

Mahomes and the Chiefs are now 5-2 in the AFC Championship round since he became Kansas City’s starter in his second professional season. At only 29 years of age, Mahomes is the first quarterback in history to lead a franchise to five Super Bowls in a six-year stretch and the youngest to ever win five conference championship crowns.

The win over the Bills marked the Chiefs’ ninth-consecutive postseason victory, making Mahomes only the third starting quarterback in history with a similar streak, He will look to match Tom Brady’s all-time record of 10 in Super Bowl LIX, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 9 from Caesars Superdome in New Orleans . Fellow quarterback Bart Starr also won nine-consecutive postseason games during his Hall of Fame career from 1961-68.

Texas Tech will be represented by three Red Raiders in Super Bowl LIX as Kansas City also boasts rookie tight end Baylor Cupp on its practice squad, while former offensive lineman Le’Raven Clark is a member of the Eagles. Clark is not expected to play against his former college quarterback as he was placed on injured reserve this past summer.
