BREAKING NEWS: Double Tragedy Rocks Michigan Wolverines – Coach and Star Player Die in Sudden Accident
Ann Arbor, MI – April 22, 2025
The University of Michigan community is mourning today following a devastating incident that has claimed the lives of two beloved members of the Wolverines football program — Assistant Coach Marcus Tillman and junior wide receiver Darius Cole — both killed in a tragic car accident late Monday night.
According to authorities, the crash occurred just after 11:30 p.m. on I-94 near Ann Arbor. The vehicle, reportedly driven by Coach Tillman, veered off the road during heavy rain and struck a tree. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Coach Tillman, 45, had been a part of Michigan’s coaching staff for nearly a decade and was widely regarded as a cornerstone of the Wolverines’ recent national title run. Known for his mentorship and fiery spirit, his influence stretched far beyond the sidelines.
Darius Cole, just 21, was considered one of the program’s most promising young stars — a breakout wide receiver with NFL potential. Coaches, teammates, and fans alike are stunned by the loss of a player many saw as the future of Michigan football.
“This is an unthinkable loss,” said Head Coach Sherrone Moore in an emotional statement early Tuesday morning. “We’ve lost a great coach, a great teammate, and two even better men. Our hearts are shattered.”
Classes and athletic activities have been suspended for the day as grief counselors and university officials work to support students and staff. A candlelight vigil is planned for tomorrow evening at The Big House.
Further details about the accident are still under investigation. The Wolverines program, the university, and the college football world now face not just the pain of loss, but the challenge of moving forward without two of its brightest light
