Just In: Wayne County, Plaza is on Fire 300 Life Confirmed Dead

In a devastating turn of events, a massive fire has consumed a major shopping plaza in Wayne County, resulting in at least 300 confirmed fatalities. The blaze broke out late Sunday evening, trapping hundreds of shoppers and employees inside.

According to local authorities, the fire began in the food court area and rapidly spread throughout the complex. Witnesses reported hearing explosions, likely caused by gas canisters igniting. Tragically, security personnel had locked the main doors to prevent customers from fleeing without paying, hindering escape efforts. Many victims succumbed to smoke inhalation, with burns occurring later.

Firefighters faced significant challenges in accessing the building, as security staff reportedly fired upon them when they attempted to force open the main door. Despite these obstacles, emergency responders managed to rescue several individuals, though the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The shopping plaza, part of the Ycua Bolanos chain, included a supermarket, fast-food outlets, offices, and a parking garage. At least 400 people were believed to be inside at the time of the fire. The Paraguayan government has declared three days of national mourning, and President Nicanor Duarte has pledged support to the victims and their families.

Investigatons are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire and to hold accountable those responsible for the safety lapses that led to this catastrophic loss of life.
