
In a surprising move that has sent ripples through the NBA community, the Atlanta Hawks have parted ways with General Manager Landry Fields following a disappointing 40-42 season. The team’s failure to secure a playoff spot for the second consecutive year, culminating in an overtime loss to the Miami Heat in the NBA Play-In Tournament, prompted this significant front-office shakeup.
Landry Fields’ Tenure and Challenges
Fields, 36, joined the Hawks as an assistant general manager in 2020 and was elevated to the GM position in June 2022. Under his leadership, the Hawks posted a 117-129 record. Despite efforts to revamp the roster, including the selection of French forward Zaccharie Risacher with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the team struggled to find consistent success. Risacher showed promise during his rookie season, averaging 12.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in 75 games, but the team’s overall performance remained lackluster.
