Greenville, OH — In a heartbreaking turn of events, tragedy struck this afternoon when the Greenville High Titans football team was involved in a catastrophic bus crash while traveling to their state championship game. Authorities confirm that all 32 passengers, including players, coaches, and staff, sustained injuries — several of them critical.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:05 PM on I-75 North near Mason County, when the team bus collided with an overturned semi-truck during heavy rain. First responders from multiple jurisdictions arrived swiftly on the scene, pulling victims from the wreckage in a frantic effort to save lives.
“This is one of the most devastating incidents we’ve witnessed,” said Mason County Sheriff Lisa Grant. “Our thoughts are with the families, the school, and the entire community right now.”
Medical helicopters airlifted six individuals in critical condition to nearby trauma centers. Others were transported by ambulance to local hospitals. No fatalities have been reported at this time, but hospital officials caution that several players remain in intensive care.
The Titans, undefeated this season, were set to compete in the Division II State Championship this evening — a first in school history. That game has now been postponed indefinitely.
Parents and loved ones gathered at Greenville High School shortly after word of the crash broke, many in tears, anxiously awaiting updates. School officials have announced that grief counselors will be made available immediately for students, staff, and families.
“This team is the heart of this town,” said Principal Laura Mendez. “We are devastated, but we will support each other through this.”
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
This is a developing story. More updates will follow as information becomes available.
