Four departed Orlando Pirates stars linked with DStv Premiership clubs

Following their exits from Orlando Pirates, Kermit Erasmus, Fortune Makaringe, Siyabonga Mpontshane, and Thabang Monare are generating transfer buzz, with potential moves to DStv Premiership clubs on the horizon.

This significant player exodus is part of a major squad overhaul for the Buccaneers, with six players departing within a week of the season’s conclusion.

The first departure was Souaibou Marou who left the club after just a one-season stay where he collected only four appearances across all competitions.

The second departure was Makaringe who left the club, ending a four-season stay having signed from Maritzburg United in 2019.

The Soweto giants then announced the exits of Erasmus, Monare, Richard Ofori and the long-serving Siyabonga Mpontshane who spent nine years at Pirates having joined the club in 2015 from Platinum Stars.

A LOOK AT POTENTIAL DESTINATIONS FOR ERASMUS, MONARE, MAKARINGE AND MPONTSHANE

Kermit Erasmus

Romeo, 33, surely still has a lot to offer as a striker. Prior to signing with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020, he was a talisman for Cape Town City.

Reports suggest that the Citizens are interested in re-signing him as he also looks to revive himself.

The Western Cape-based side recently released four players including a striker, Jo Paciencia who struggled somewhat to put the ball into the back of the net.

Erasmus could be an option for City to replace the Angolan forward.

Thabang Monare

‘Desh’, as he’s well-known in football circles, didn’t get much game time in the recently-ended season and will be looking to go to where he has a guaranteed starting place.

He has been heavily linked with the newly-promoted Magesi FC who’ll be looking to strengthen their squad for their debut season in the top-flight.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United also appear in the picture with their head coach having worked with Monare at Bidvest Wits. There might be a reunion should SuperSport move a step further to sign 34-year-old.

Fortune Makaringe

According to iDiski Times, Makaringe has already agreed terms with Cape Town City who moved swiftly in acquiring the services of the skilful midfielder.

He could partner with Haashim Domingo who’s also said to be close to completing his move to the Cape Town-based club after parting ways with Raja Casablanca.

Siyabonga Mpontshane

The 38-year-old was linked with a move TS Galaxy last season when Pirates signed Melusi Buthelezi from the Rockets.

Polokwane City have now emerged as his potential next destination with the club having reportedly shown interest.

Currently, they have Manuel Sapunga who had an impressive 2023/24 season, Lindokuhle Mathebula, Masizakhe Myataza and Amos Mokwena.
