The Pittsburgh Steelers had excellent news on their first injury report of the Wild Card round, as safety Minkah Fitzpatrick returned to practice as a full participant for the first time since suffering a knee injury in Week 15. However, as they approach the final two days of preparation, they must keep an eye on a few players in order to return to full strength.
The Steelers’ practice week began with running back Najee Harris (knee), guard Isaac Seumalo (shoulder), and outside linebacker T.J. Watt (knee) absent. Elandon Roberts, an inside linebacker (pectoral), defensive tackles Cam Heyward and Larry Ogunjobi, and cornerback Patrick Peterson were all limited. All three veterans rested.
Harris and Seumalo have missed several practice days throughout the second half of the season owing to injuries. However, neither has missed a game due to their injuries and is not expected to do so this week.
Roberts was expected to remain limited throughout the week, but after recovering from a pectoral injury last week, he is not expected to miss any time.
Watt was ruled out of the Wild Card round by head coach Mike Tomlin following a grade 2 MCL sprain suffered in Week 18 against the Baltimore Ravens. If the club wins against the Buffalo Bills this weekend in the first round of the playoffs, they will be able to reevaluate his injuries.
Regarding Fitzpatrick, Tomlin stated that the team is “optimistic” he will return after missing several weeks due to a knee injury. Fitzpatrick hasn’t played since suffering an injury against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15.
