New Orleans Saints running backs coach Joel Thomas is “interviewing today for the vacant New Orleans Giants running backs coach job,” according to a source of NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.
The Saints have granted the Giants permission to interview Thomas. New York is interviewing to fill a vacancy left by former running backs coach Jeff Nixon.
The Giants lost Nixon after he left to become the offensive coordinator and running backs coach at Syracuse University.
Thomas has been with New Orleans for nine seasons as the team’s running backs coach. He’s helped to develop star running backs Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram during his tenure with the Saints. According to the Saints’ website, the running backs in New Orleans have led the NFL in touchdowns since he arrived in 2015.
