The Pittsburgh Steelers nearly traveled south prior to the postponement of their playoff game.
Pittsburgh — The Pittsburgh Steelers are waiting an extra day before facing the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. According to The Buffalo News, the NFL nearly moved the game to Atlanta before deciding to postpone it.
The NFL, Steelers, Bills, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul reached an agreement to move the game from Sunday afternoon to Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET. The decision was made in the hopes that travel conditions would improve following a weekend of lake-effect snow showers and winds gusting up to 50 mph.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced that the NFL was considering moving the game from Buffalo to Cleveland due to weather. However, at the time of publication, a Steelers spokesperson told All Steelers that they had not been informed that the league was considering a venue change.
Orchard Park is expected to receive 12-24 inches of snow prior to kickoff, with wind gusts reaching 35-40 miles per hour, according to local weather reports on News4.
According to reports, the game may be postponed a second time, this time to Tuesday, if the weather does not clear up in time.
Kickoff is currently scheduled for Monday, January 15, at 4:30 p.m. ET at Highmark Stadium.
