GOOD NEWS: Steelers safe new contract

Michael Vick signs with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Michael Vick, a veteran quarterback, has finally found a home in 2015 after agreeing to a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday, the team announced.

The deal is worth “roughly” $1 million, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pittsburgh needed a reliable veteran backup behind starter Ben Roethlisberger after incumbent Bruce Gradkowski had surgery for a dislocated finger.

According to Kristian Dyer of Metro, six other teams, including the New York Jets, have expressed interest in Vick. On August 12, NFL Network’s Rand Getlin reported that the Jets discussed signing Vick to serve as Ryan Fitzpatrick’s backup.

In three starts and ten appearances in 2014, the four-time Pro Bowler completed only 52.9% of his passes for 604 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.

While Vick’s abilities aren’t quite on par with Big Ben’s, the veteran wouldn’t necessitate a complete overhaul of the offensive scheme if Roethlisberger went down.
