Good news: Ohio State now confirmed in final stage discussion to land highly Rated Star Via Transfer Portal

Ohio State is actively pursuing top transfer talent Caleb Downs, a former Alabama safety who holds the No. 1 overall ranking in the transfer portal. Following their recent success in acquiring impactful transfers, including quarterback Will Howard, running back Quinshon Judkins, and offensive lineman Seth McLaughlin, the Buckeyes are now turning their attention to Downs.

The former five-star recruit, recognized for his outstanding performance as SEC newcomer and freshman of the year, has become a sought-after prospect since entering the portal after the retirement of Alabama’s head coach, Nick Saban. Despite strong competition from the Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State is making a significant effort to secure Downs, who showcased his prowess with 107 tackles, two interceptions, and other notable achievements during his freshman year with the Tide. The Buckeyes, already possessing a veteran safety and promising young talent, see Downs as a potential playmaker to elevate their secondary’s status.

With the prospect of a multi-year stint in Columbus, Ohio State aims to create a formidable defensive pairing between Downs and emerging talent Sonny Styles, presenting a challenging scenario for Big Ten opponents.
