Red Wings Captain Dylan Larkin Cherish Christmas Memories Old And New Amid With Two Of

While the Detroit Red Wings’ 2024-25 season looks bleak, as they’ll emerge from the Christmas break having lost three consecutive games, the three-day reprieve offered a chance to reflect and rejoice.

“I hope guys use the break to rest and relax,” captain Dylan Larkin said after what he and his teammates can only hope was the nadir of the season: A 4-0 loss at Little Caesars Arena to the St. Louis Blues.

The Wings (13-17-4) next play Friday, when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last time the Leafs were at Little Caesars Arena, the Wings delivered their best performance of the season in a 4-2 victory.

In the spirit of the Christmas holiday, here’s a look at how select Wings celebrate.

Patrick Kane, who spent 16 NHL seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks., used to make returning to his native Buffalo a priority.

“I remember I would always try to get back as soon as I could — we always played the 23rd and 27th at home, so it was a nice schedule,” he said. “I could usually have 2½ days with family. We had a lot of fun.

“When I got older, I liked staying in Chicago and just relaxing, watching movies. And now this year, I think we’ll stay here and just enjoy it. My kid isn’t really a big movie watcher, but he’s four years old now and we watched Home Alone the other day, and now he wants to watch the second one. So we’ll do that with him. It’s a great time of year, it’s one of my favorite times of the year — Christmas, a Christmas tree, being with family. I don’t think there’s anything like it.”
