Cody Rager, the assistant scouting director for the New Orleans Saints, is set to leave the team to take a job with the Denver Broncos, according to an NFL Insider report on Monday. Schefter claims that the Broncos are nearing completion on a deal to promote Rager to vice president of scouting.
Over the weekend, Nick Underhill of neworleans.football reported that Rager was being pursued by the Broncos. Naturally, Sean Payton, who played for the Saints from 2006 to 2021, is Denver’s head coach.
Payton acquired a number of former New Orleans assistants to his staff during the previous offseason after the Saints traded his rights to the Broncos. According to reports, Payton and Broncos General Manager George Paton will collaborate closely with Rager.
Rager had worked as a scout for nine years in New Orleans. He started out for the team as a scout in the West Coast area. Under Jeff Ireland, the Saints’ assistant general manager and director of college scouting, Rager was elevated to the position of assistant college scouting director in 2021.
