Auburn has been transformed into KickerU since Cody Parkey over a decade ago. Towns McGough, the nation’s No. 3 kicker according to the Kohl’s Kicking Camp rankings, has signed with Auburn.
McGough, a graduate of Auburn High School in Alabama, was also considering Ole Miss. McGough was offered a scholarship by the Rebels, but the Tigers added him as a preferred walk-on who is expected to receive a NIL deal to compensate for not being on scholarship.
“He’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to coach.” He’s a wonderful young man. Auburn High head coach Keith Etheredge told Auburn Undercover, “He’s a 4.0 kid.” “He’s fantastic in the classroom. He’s the most commonplace kicker I’ve ever seen. His leg is incredible. The kid is going to kick on Sundays after only doing it for two years. If he stays healthy, he’ll set NFL records.”
McGough hit 19 of his 22 field goal attempts as a senior and did not miss inside 56 yards. He made kicks from 50 yards, 52 yards, 55 yards, 56 yards, and 60 yards. McGough’s kickoffs averaged 73 yards.
Alex McPherson will enter his redshirt sophomore season in 2024, but he may choose to enter the NFL Draft after that. Auburn’s previous three NFL kickers were Anders Carlson, Daniel Carlson, and Parkey.
Tanner Burns, special teams coordinator, will be hoping McPherson continues his hot streak and McGough follows suit.
