The Broncos have received a significant pre-season boost with young gun Ezra Mam reportedly committing to the Red Hill club on a long-term deal.
According to The Courier Mail, Mam will sign a contract with the Broncos until at least the end of 2025, joining a number of other prominent players.
Payne Haas, Pat Carrigan, Reece Walsh, and Selwyn Cobbo have all signed contracts until at least the end of 2025, as the Brisbane club looks to move from 2020 wooden spooners to 2024 premiers.
Mam’s extension will reportedly be announced before the Broncos’ trip to Las Vegas, where they will begin the 2024 season against the Roosters.
Brisbane powerbrokers will be desperate to keep fullback Reece Walsh beyond 2025.
The former Warrior’s contract expires at the end of the 2024 season, and if he does not re-sign by November 1, he will be the hottest free agent on the market.
Mam’s performance in the 2023 grand final cemented him as one of the NRL’s rising stars, as he scored a stunning second-half hat trick against the Panthers.
The Dolphins were impressed by his performance, and head coach Wayne Bennett was eager to hire him after recruiting teammates Herbie Farnworth and Tom Flegler.
However, Broncos executives acted quickly to ensure Mam will wear a maroon jersey for years to come, with Walters stating that his retention is a “matter of when”.
“I am very confident he will stay. “He loves this place, and we love him,” he said.
