Maxx Crosby, a Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro edge rusher, had a career season in 2023-24, but it was also one of his most arduous, as he battled a severe knee ailment that necessitated particular treatment.
While the severity of the injury became clearer in the second half of the season, Crosby received some fresh information when he had his most recent surgery on Jan. 17. He shared the news on Monday’s episode of his podcast, “The Rush With Maxx Crosby.”
“It was a process, bro, and it honestly, it made me grow just as a competitor, as a leader, as a man,” he went on to say. “Like, knowing I could get through some hard s— and still come out and play my best every single Sunday, that’s honestly what I got, what I took from it.”
Crosby is coming off the best season of his career, but with full health, he believes he can improve even more.
“It gets me more excited to get this s— back, rolling, 100 percent, get the wheel 1,010 percent, so next year, I’m going to be flying even faster and playing at an even higher level.,” he went on to say. “So, I’m excited, bro.”
“So, basically explaining it, my bursae was destroyed and dismantled, so when I blew it up the first time, it’s like, OK, it could possibly heal if you get off it and whatever, but I played 16 straight weeks with it in practice and ran and all type of s—,” he added. “So it just kept growing worse, and every game, I’d land on it and it would explode out. So, obviously, it became contaminated at some time.
“It was all kinds of f—– up. However, the more you pound on it, the more it acts like a compressor. So it felt like smashing a softball, and it wasn’t just in my knee, but all the way down into my tibia. So I was in discomfort, and I had no idea it was because of the bursae.”
Crosby said the latest surgery, conducted by well-renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal EllAttrache, lasted three hours, when originally, it was only supposed to last an hour and a half.

As grueling of an injury as it was, Crosby acknowledged the silver lining of the experience.
