Former Penn State Wrestler Zack Ryder Transfers To Wisconsin

Former Penn State wrestler Zack Ryder has transferred to Oklahoma State, he announced Friday. Ryder has four years of eligibility left as he joins former Penn State wrestler and second-year Oklahoma State head coach David Taylor in Stillwater.

Ryder was a freshman in the 184-pound weight class this season and was the anticipated heir to Carter Starocci’s former position in the starting lineup. Before redshirting, Ryder had an 8-0 record as he conquered the field at the Black Knight Invitational and Southern Scuffle at the beginning of the season.

Ryder announced he was entering the transfer portal after former Ohio State All-American Rocco Welsh signed with the Nittany Lions. Welsh was the 2024 NCAA runner-up at 174 pounds, losing to Starocci by decision in the national finals. After being redshirted, Welsh left Ohio State and was anticipated to compete with Ryder for the 184-pound starting spot this upcoming season.

Ryder joins former Penn State teammates Alex Facundo and Gary Steen at Oklahoma State. The trio will compete for starting positions in David Taylor’s second season as head coach.
