Should Kadarius Toney play in the Super Bowl for the Kansas City Chiefs despite missing their AFC Conference Championship win over the Baltimore Ravens? He’s no longer listed as injured, meaning he might play against the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
He was ruled out due to injury, presumably for tactical reasons, but he took to social media to defiantly assert that he is not hurt and that he does not consent to any information being revealed by his club.
In an Instagram story, Toney stated, “I’m not selfish, I’m putting my all into this.” “I am not hurt…” They are disseminating material that I do not approve of, and it has taken me out of character.”
He did not play in the Ravens’ victory against Lamar Jackson. According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, this was due to his first paternity leave for a newborn girl, disguised as personal reasons.
Toney stats for 2023
In 2023, Toney has one touchdown and 169 yards on 27 receptions from 38 targets. On a per-game basis, he averages 0.06 touchdowns, 10.5 yards, 1.68 receptions, and 2.3 targets, indicating that he is not a first choice for Patrick Mahomes.
He hasn’t been a part of the rushing game either, only going for 31 yards from 11 carries across 16 NFL games so he is a utility player rather than a starter. But, he could have a role to play in the Super Bowl other than just giving players a brief rest.
Rashee Rice is still questionable for the game against the 49ers, although he did participate on February 1’s practice, so if he misses out in Nevada then Toney could be set to pick up some more minutes and workload.
