In a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, the New York Yankees acquired left-handed reliever Caleb Ferguson in exchange for right-handed pitcher Christian Zazueta Jr. and left-handed pitcher Matt Gage.
Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman of the New York Post broke the transaction first.
Ferguson, 27, recorded a 7-4 record with a 3.43 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 68 appearances, seven starts, and 60.1 innings pitched for the Dodgers last season. He also recorded 70 strikeouts. In 2022, he performed even better, recording a 1.82 ERA in 37 innings.
Given that Ferguson required Tommy John surgery in 2020 and missed the 2021 campaign, durability may be a long-term worry. But in the last two seasons, he has been a dependable option for the Dodgers, so it hasn’t hurt him.
