What a bad news for Heels about

In Chapel Hill, it seems like Christmas morning.

You might wonder, why?

The men’s basketball team at UNC is coming off a huge victory on Saturday night, defeating archrival Duke (16-5, 7-3), 93-84. UNC (18-4, 10-1) dominated the game for the most part. In the last two minutes, the Blue Devils managed to narrow the gap to only ten points, but Armando Bacot of North Carolina sealed the victory with a huge slam.

The Tar Heels’ victory increased their lead in the ACC to two games. Had Duke prevailed the previous evening, it would only be behind UNC by a half-game.

Following yesterday’s games, the NET rankings were also revised, and North Carolina remained at ninth.

Although UNC’s placement in the NET rankings was undoubtedly damaged by their Tuesday loss to Georgia Tech, their victory over the Blue Devils on Saturday most likely kept them in the Top 10.

Before traveling to UVA on Saturday, February 24, for a matchup between the top two teams in the ACC, North Carolina has four games left to win: Clemson on Tuesday, February 6, Miami on Saturday, February 10, Syracuse on Tuesday, February 13, and Virginia Tech on Saturday, February 17.

Losing any of their first four upcoming games would likely further hurt the Tar Heels in the NET rankings, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

If UNC plays like it did Saturday, I smell another winning streak incoming.
