Gators advance in ESPN’s Bracketology projections with their first quarter win.

Florida’s shock road win against No. 10 Kentucky moves the Gators into the field of 68, according to ESPN’s Joe Lonardi’s latest bracketology update.

“The first four out Gators have a huge opportunity to post their first Q1 win in seven tries as well as leap into the field with right results elsewhere,” he was quoted as saying at the time.

As a result of the win, Florida moved up the standings but remained on the outside looking in on Friday, as the First Team Out.

Florida Gators topple rival FSU to reach bowl eligibility

Fortunately for the Gators, favourable results elsewhere, along with a tight loss on the road to another bubble club, Texas A&M, were enough to propel Florida into the field as the important month of February began.

The Gators had defeated their predicted opponents, going 14-0 versus Quad II, III, and IV opponents, but they had yet to win a Quad I game before Wednesday’s game against the ‘Cats.

To avoid going 0-7 in those games, Florida played with purpose, producing at an incredibly high rate while also demonstrating tremendous resiliency in Rupp Arena, probably the SEC’s most intimidating atmosphere for opposition teams.
