Recent reports indicate that the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of Notre Dame are not actively pursuing quarterback Nico Iamaleava, a highly touted five-star recruit from California. Iamaleava, who previously committed to the University of Tennessee in March 2022, has been a significant figure in college football recruiting circles.
During his recruitment, Iamaleava was considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2023 class, with impressive performances at Warren High School in Downey, California. He later transferred back to Long Beach Poly High School, where he had begun his high school career .
While Notre Dame was once considered a potential fit for Iamaleava, with his high school coach noting the family’s enthusiasm for the program , both Notre Dame and USC have since focused their recruiting efforts elsewhere. USC secured a commitment from five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson, while Notre Dame has concentrated on other quarterback prospects.
Iamaleava’s commitment to Tennessee marked a significant achievement for the Volunteers, as he became their highest-rated quarterback recruit since 2002 . His decision was influenced by his positive experiences during visits and the strong relationships he built with the Tennessee coaching staff.
As of now, there is no indication that either USC or Notre Dame is attempting to re-engage with Iamaleava. Both programs appear content with their current quarterback commitments and are directing their recruiting efforts toward other targets.
