The Los Angeles Lakers are bolstering their frontcourt depth ahead of the 2025 NBA Playoffs by reserving centers Christian Koloko and Trey Jemison Jr., aiming to enhance their interior defense and rebounding capabilities.
Christian Koloko’s Return
Christian Koloko, a 7-foot-1 center, has made a remarkable comeback after being sidelined since April 2023 due to a blood clot issue. Medically cleared by the NBA’s fitness-to-play panel in late October 2024, Koloko signed a two-way contract with the Lakers in September 2024 and made his debut on November 6, 2024, playing 13 minutes off the bench. He expressed his gratitude, stating, “It was amazing… just not knowing if I was going to play basketball again… we’re just happy” .
During his rookie season with the Toronto Raptors in 2022-23, Koloko averaged 3.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks over 58 games. His defensive prowess and rim protection are expected to be valuable assets for the Lakers during the postseason .
Trey Jemison Jr.’s Role
While specific details about Trey Jemison Jr.’s recent activities are limited, the Lakers’ decision to reserve him for the playoffs indicates their confidence in his abilities to contribute effectively when called upon.
