BREAKING NEWS: QB Battle Rages in Tuscaloosa — Simpson, Mack, Russell Turning Up the Heat in Tide’s Race for QB1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A new era is brewing at Bryant-Denny Stadium as Alabama football finds itself in the thick of a high-stakes quarterback battle. With Jalen Milroe off to the NFL, the Crimson Tide are searching for their next leader under center — and the competition is as fierce as ever.

Ty Simpson, the redshirt sophomore with in-game experience, looked sharp in the annual A-Day spring game, showcasing poise and arm strength. Not far behind is Austin Mack, the talented freshman with big upside and a smooth throwing motion that’s turned heads in practice. But stealing the spotlight is five-star early enrollee Keelon Russell, who has impressed with his athleticism and command well beyond his years.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer hasn’t named a starter yet, and with fall camp on the horizon, that decision appears far from certain.

> “We’re evaluating everything — leadership, execution, consistency,” DeBoer said after the spring game. “It’s a healthy competition, and they’re pushing each other the right way.”

Simpson brings the edge in experience, Mack offers long-term potential, and Russell is quickly proving he belongs in the mix right now. All three are making a case, and for the first time in years, Alabama’s starting quarterback job is wide open heading into summer workouts.

Stay tuned. The Crimson Tide’s 2025 season may very well depend on who emerges from this three-man QB gauntlet.
