
BREAKING NEWS: Three Killed in Boating Accident at Alabama Fishing Tournament
CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. — A tragic boating accident at a Major League Fishing tournament on Lewis Smith Lake has claimed the lives of three men.
The crash occurred around 7 a.m. on April 16, 2025, when a Nitro bass boat collided with a center-console boat near the Miller Flats area of the lake. Authorities say the impact caused several individuals to be thrown into the water.
Those who lost their lives in the collision have been identified as:
Joey M. Broom, 58, of Altoona, Alabama, a local town councilman
John K. Clark, 44, of Cullman, Alabama
Jeffrey C. Little, 62, of Brandon, Mississippi
One of the tournament anglers, Flint Davis of Georgia, was involved in the incident but survived with injuries. Emergency crews responded quickly, but the three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
In the wake of the tragedy, Major League Fishing canceled the remainder of the Tackle Warehouse Invitational. Organizers released a statement expressing their heartbreak and offering condolences to the families of the victims.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the cause of the accident.
