BREAKING NEWS: Alabama Head Coach Kalen DeBoer Launches Bold Transfer Portal Strategy to Strengthen Roster Ahead of 2025 Season
TUSCALOOSA, AL – Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer is making waves this offseason with an aggressive approach in the NCAA transfer portal, targeting key positional upgrades as the Crimson Tide prepare for the 2025 college football season.
Following the departure of quarterback Jalen Milroe to the NFL Draft, DeBoer has prioritized rebuilding core units across the roster. The quarterback battle remains wide open with returning sophomore Ty Simpson, redshirt freshman Austin Mack, and five-star recruit Keelon Russell all in contention to lead Alabama’s offense.
To bolster the receiving corps, the Tide added Miami transfer Isaiah Horton. The 6’4”, 205-pound wideout brings size and athleticism, fresh off a productive season with 56 catches for 616 yards and five touchdowns. He’ll join rising stars like Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard in what promises to be a dynamic unit.
In the trenches, Alabama secured Texas A&M transfer Kam Dewberry, a seasoned offensive lineman with over 30 games of experience. He is expected to compete immediately for a starting role, likely at left guard.
Defensively, the Tide brought in Utah cornerback Cameron Calhoun to fortify the secondary. Calhoun adds depth and versatility to a unit that will need to contain some of the SEC’s most dangerous passing attacks.
At linebacker, Alabama scored a major win by adding former Colorado standout Nikhai Hill-Green. The senior earned first-team All-Big 12 honors in 2024 and is expected to bring leadership and playmaking ability to the middle of the defense.
Alabama’s transfer portal efforts have not gone unnoticed. CBS Sports awarded the Crimson Tide an “A+” grade for their portal class, citing the staff’s focus on targeted needs and immediate impact talent.
As DeBoer enters his second season at the helm, his proactive portal strategy signals a clear intention: maintain Alabama’s standard of excellence and compete for championships.
