On January 16, Purdue University’s Zach Edey, a center, finished with 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 of 12 free throws in the team’s 87-66 victory over Indiana at Assembly Hall. In this rematch, Indiana Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Woodson says the team will need to guard him more effectively.
“He’s going to make you look bad if you don’t go out with him and bang some.” Many teams are being embarrassed by him. Woodson stated on Thursday, “He was Player of the Year last year and he’s a lot better player now.” The Hoosiers had multiple players in foul trouble during the previous game. Woodson asserts that it must not occur once more.
“We have to approach the game with the hope that we can avoid foul trouble, play aggressively like they do, and watch what transpires,” Woodson stated.
Woodson claims that Indiana’s front-line players will have to fight for this reason.
Additionally, CJ Gunn and Kaleb Banks have not produced much for the Hoosiers in recent times. Woodson asserts that this will need to alter.
“When I put them in there, maybe I’m putting too much pressure or they’re feeling too much pressure to perform. I don’t want them to feel that way. That part of it I have to figure out,” said Woodson.
Woodson said guard Xavier Johnson is out indefinitely. Indiana Center Kel’el Ware appeared to injure his leg late in the game against Ohio State. Woodson says he’ll know more about Ware’s status for Saturday’s game in the next couple of days.
