The Winnipeg Jets are putting a significant bow on their offseason.
The Jets announced on Monday that they have secured multiyear contracts for both goalkeeper Connor Hellebuyck and centre Mark Scheifele, guaranteeing their futures north of the border with just one day to go before the NHL’s opening night.
Scheifele and Hellebuyck agreed to identical seven-year contracts of $8.5 million per. After this season, both players were scheduled to become unrestricted free agents.
In the past few years, Hellebuyck and Scheifele have both been essential to one of Winnipeg’s most prosperous eras in team history, which included the Jets’ 2018 run to the conference finals.
These two were expected to be among the top free agents available in the summer of 2013. They will now remain in this location for the remainder of the decade.
Hellebuyck and Scheifele, who will be 38 years old when their contracts expire, both received a rise of almost $2.44 million with their new contracts.
The 30-year-old Scheifele, the team’s alternate captain, was a mainstay for the Jets the previous season, coming in third place with 68 points in 81 games, behind only Kyle Connor and John Morrissey.
Hellebuyck, on the other hand, carried on being his usual productive self, earning a spot on his third All-Star team and finishing the season with 37 wins and a.920 save percentage, both of which were top-five results.
