Wests Tigers star Adam Doueihi, who is injured, has bestowed the highest compliments on rookie coach Benji Marshall as the struggling team attempts to recover from consecutive wooden spoon finishes. With Marshall taking charge toward the conclusion of the season, the Tigers concluded another dismal season in 2023 at the bottom of the standings.
Many disenchanted Tigers fans are hopeful that Marshall, the club legend, can turn their fortunes around as he begins his first preseason as head coach. The coach faces a challenging assignment in trying to revitalize a Tigers team that hasn’t provided much for almost ten years. The Tigers finished the season on a new low after being completely humiliated 54–12 by Manly in week 27, even though Benji Marshall took charge for the remaining three games of the season. With just four victories in the end, the Tigers had a -290 for-and-against record.
The club legend has added Canberra halfback Aiden Sezer, former Melbourne center Justin Olam, and Penrith five-eighth Jarome Luai for the 2025 season in an effort to rejuvenate the team. Marshall has confirmed that Sezer would take Luke Brooks’ spot at halfback. Brooks left the team at the end of the previous season to play for Manly. However, it is still unclear who will play with him in the second half.
Before facing the Raiders to begin their 2024 campaign, the Tigers get a first-round bye. And news that the players are adopting Marshall’s ideology would excite the supporters.
As the team attempts to end their finals football drought, Doueihi gave their new coach the highest praise possible during the preseason workouts. Regarding Marshall’s coaching style, Doueihi remarked, “Even watching from afar when he’s directing training and directing the video reviews and previews, you can see that he’s really in charge in giving the boys a simplified game plan for what we want to do this year.”
