Ivan Soldo, a Port Adelaide recruit, has explained why he plans to move from Punt Road to Alberton during the off-season.
Last October, a deal was ultimately completed, even though the Tigers had preferred to keep Soldo, a 2019 premiership player, on the team.
During his nine seasons at Richmond, the 27-year-old played just 57 senior games and was mostly ignored by captain Toby Nankervis during his time at Tigerland.
The former Richmond ruckman revealed the information that sparked his interstate move while speaking on SEN radio.
“It was the decision my management and I decided would be the best move for me considering the circumstances I was under, and Port Adelaide were under,” Soldo explained, via SEN.
Soldo brought up the abrupt resignation of Richmond’s coach Damien Hardwick and the several year-end exits, most notably Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt.
“It was an interesting point with Richmond, the head coach ‘Dimma’ (Damien Hardwick) had left and there were a few blokes retiring,” he said.
Naturally, Richmond expressed their want to keep me during the trade period, but in our conversations with my management throughout the course of the year, we were constantly on the lookout for new opportunities.
